The Board of Directors of CEDAS pays tribute to board member Daniel Smolnik, who served on the board up to his untimely passing on May 23rd.

Dan was an active advocate of advancing CEDAS’ input with state legislative policy, bringing his expertise as a tax attorney of 30 years, and his passion for data and analysis to his service as Vice-Chair of our Policy Committee.

“Dan was an amazing man and professional,” said Paige Bronk, Immediate Past-President. “He continuously sought the best from himself and others. Dan will be missed but not forgotten.”

“Dan was an important EDC member in Hamden for many years when I was there,” said Dale Kroop, long-time economic development director of Hamden and former CEDAS President. “He really loved his family and really, really loved data! He made a great contribution to the field and to the world.”

“I knew Dan personally and encouraged him to join CEDAS,” said President, Kevin Bielmeier. “He was thorough, thoughtful, opinionated, professional, and devoted to his family, his profession, this organization, and to others, right to the end. Just last month, Dan penned a policy position for CEDAS to consider. He will be sorely missed.”

We honor Dan’s service and dedication to the economic development community and send condolences to his wife Alex, and their two children. Please visit the link below for the official announcement:
