Event Details:
This two-part class explores the fundamentals of the economic development and planning disciplines with an emphasis on their interrelation and the planning tools needed for both. It is intended for new planning and development staff members, board and commission members and community leadership. Crash Course I will provide a review of historical changes leading to the current practice of economic of economic development; businesses relocation factors; marketing to target industries and clusters; functions of full-service economic development programs; among others. In addition, it will discuss the community planning process used to stimulate and guide economic development. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the planning process, the roles and responsibilities of land use boards and commissions, and some of the techniques communities can use to create the community their citizens want.
